I would definately be interested in endurance. I have always wanted to do it and I was thinking of having a go at it next year with Seren.

How about stud open days - never see any of that up here. It's always down south.
Also we could arrange group rides - forestry/beach etc.

Also we could arrange group rides - forestry/beach etc. That's an idea! I never thought of that, for me to host I mean. I'm off all of July and would love to have folks over for a ride. There's plenty of parking for trailers and I would be able to corral your horse and then you can stay for lunch too. Let me know if you're interested in that, I'd love to organise it. I'm just off the FRB (Dalgety Bay). Fee (Anne, the road has just been fixed too, not one hole to be seen! ;D;))

Fee,
I would loveto come over and join the fun and I'm sure I can persuade Joanna to come as well.
I compete a lot with my boy at endurance and it's a hard task to actually balance the weight of the horse between the disciplines. Endurance horses don't carry the weight for the show ring and DO get marked down for it. I am not by any means saying this is wrong it's just a fact. Pleasure distances are fine but when you start going longer distances then you have a clear choice to make, stay fit but well covered over the buts or lean and rangy. There are many endurance riders who like the idea of showing so perhaps if there were some fliers that could be given out then that might be a way forward. I would be happy to helpwith this if you felt it was a good idea

What a great idea Gill! We could run it as an endurance info day maybe? With my experience in the sport, yours and I'm sure Anne would come.
Any folks interested in ride out/endurance info/lunch/bbq day?
Fee
PS Know what you mean re the weight difference in showing and endurance. I don't have that problem right now as Po is in lovely show condition! ;D

That would be great then. I don't keep up with what's on in the showing or endurance world atm, so what weekend suits in July? Or does a weekday suit most? Jayne Merlyn doesn't need to be fit, none of mine are! I'm thinking just a hack as I'd probably take Polka to give her the experience and we've hardly trotted! Jb if you want to bring your unbacked horse that would be good for the experience to take him/her out inhand?? I could take Inka out in hand too if that's the case. If anyone is interested I could also show you some Parelli type things as I was previously a student. Would be a fun day, I hope! Fee

I'd love to do something like this next year Can we organise something that people who dont/cant ride can get to another time? I like Julie's idea of a stud visit?

i was a member a few years back & i re-joined again last year mainly because of the northern group show & the clinic that was run up in aberdeenshire but i havent joined this year as i can do the northern show as a non-member & apart from that there isnt anything else up this way i couldnt afford to travel down to Ingliston for the group show, it kind of bugs me slightly that its a scottish show but yet people from englandshire can get to it quicker than aberdeenshire & folk from further north can i love Ingliston as a show venue but it isnt very central to Scotland, not sure if it could be done but what about moving the group show from region to region each year so that it is fair for all members?? and get those members close by to help run it?? just now i have to think on the pennys and being a member of 2 local RC (which both hold regular training nights) BD & BSHA it all adds up and i get more benifit from being members of these than i do being a member of the group BUT if you were to hold more things up here then i would re-consider joining but just now i cant justify travelling hours & hours to clinics held south when i can get to one on my doorstep each week
hope i havent upset anyone with the above i dont mean to but it is how i feel
even going to Perth for the lunch is just too far for me, it would mean having to cancel a days work which i cant do being self employed, again could this be moved about from region to region each year?

I think you've made a valid point Fred2 and I sympathise with you as being in the Scottish Borders I'm a reasonable distance from a lot of things too.
I think what you have highlighted is the fact that Scotland is too large to have just one Group. Can you imagine just one RC in Scotland?! If there were more members in each area, then I personally feel that there would be a lot more going on in each region. It's a catch 22 though as without more members there can't be more events in all areas and I suspect the committee put on what they can, where the greatest quantity of members exsist, though of course I stand to be corrected here!

Totally agree with this. For example for me going to the group show i had to hire a 4x4 which for the weekend cost me £240, i spend £80 in diesel (although £30 if that was wasted in a jeep that broke as soon as i put the diesel in ) i paid my entries which was about £40, my stabling which was £20, and i spent a night in one of the lodges which was split 4 ways which made it £35, plus the expense of getting ready and food so totalling that up it cost me over £415.00 for one day of showing. I can't afford to be doing that all the time. Okay it would be slightly less if i had my own 4x4 but it's still a very high cost which i simply can't do all the time and i refuse to waste my money doing that all the time. It's not just associated with the group, more and more and more things are being held down south and it's just too expensive to do them all the time. Same with the AGM, last year i didn't go as i only had a couple of weeks to go in my pregnancy and it was too long a journey to travel so far, on my own, and to be honest it does put me off travelling to the next one if i'm going on my own. I'm an hour north of Aberdeen (much longer if your caught in rush hour) and it's a fair travel there and back by yourself I think it would be a super idea to alternate venues every so often so that its not the Aberdeen and Northern members having to take the travelling hit quite so often. It's like the Northern show, the southern members don't want to travel to it because it's too far away yet us northerners travel to the shows down south with little complaint.

Totally agree Fred2, this is the main reason why I don't join as the show and AGM and some other events are ALWAYS way too far away. I think its a great idea to rotate the venue's for the AGM and such like, it would encourage a lot more ex members to re join. Having to travel through Aberdeen to get to a lunch is something I wouldn't consider although the quality of the Speakers that have attended have been of interest to me. I do not think that making the shows 'members only' is going to be a benefit as this I am sure would reduce income greatly. This would not encourage me to join in fact I think it would make the group appear hostile and unfriendly.
