 Mr Darcy is having a tough time, he is really lame/stiff all over. he shuffling from foot to foot. on 2 - 4 danilone a day. goin to speak to vet on Monday. need to make a decision about his future.My heart is broken  need a miracle, just want him to be sound enough to have some quality of life.........

Sorry to hear he's poorly. It will always be a very hard decision to have to make but as you say he needs to have a good quality of life. Big hug and hope that you get good news.

Elizabeth We all get good days and bad days. We were told by our vet six years ago that it was time for keba and we broke our hearts last march too but she always fights back. Tonight she floated across the field for her tea.  started her on top spec super conditioning flakes and this has sure perked her up. for 34 she is a star. The weather is getting better, see if you can maximize turnout, give him soya oil and cod liver oil to help joints. and give him a hug from me |

I had to make the same decision with lady last year,she was 22 but looked wonderful but her quality of life due to stiffness in an injured hock was not good and i was filling her with painkillers,knowing how sick they make me as i have to take them permanently for joint pain i made that awful decision when i found her unable to get up one day without asstance.I know how you are feeling but fingers crossed your boy will rally round so you can have some more time together.

Thinking about you Elizabeth and your precious boy !
Know where you are at with this - you want the absolute best for him. I wish you courage with what ever you decide. Not all horses are lucky enough to have had a life where they are loved and cared for and your boy is one of the lucky ones.

Mr Darcy has heard the words vet and injection in the same sentence and appears to have rallied today! the farrier shod him this am - I was worried he may have had stress laminitis again - but he hasnt! so thats good. when I arrived at the yard late this afternoon he was hairing about the field with Nadem, both with tails over back and snorting!
Dont know how long this new found energy will last, but he is telling me something by his behaviour. so i will continue with the Danilone for now, the vet couldnt suggest anything else!

I'm glad he's doing better. I went through the same with my horse Ellie, who I had before Gaby. She was diagnoses with Navicular when she was 9, but the vet told me that she'd probably had it since before I bought her when she was 6! It's difficult because all you want is the best for them. I went through so many times when I thought we couldn't go on, but she was a spirited girl like your boy and she fought for a lot longer than I thought she would.
