Now it has come to the time of year where we are putting rugs back on my welsh mountain has resorted to her usual minging is the only word to use winter habit.
She wears a lightweight amigo with a fillet string but when rugged refuses to lift her tail when she is pooing. At first I though it was a problem with her back or tail but vet says no. She does it when she has leg straps on too and just point blank refuses to life her tail. No problems for rest of year!
So from now until spring we have a disgusting tail which no matter how much mane & tail you put in it is full of poop and gets matted.
Does anyone else have any experience of this or have any suggestions?

Try removing the tail flap. Maybe she feels that the tail flap is restricting her. Amigo's aren't too expensive for replacing and if the tail flap removal isn't causing the issue you can always sew it back on or get a rug repair person to pop it back on for you. Other than that, if it's the rug causing the problem the only other thing i can think of to suggest is to leave the pony unrugged for the winter
