got call at work this afternoon to say that my horse had been injured poor Mr Darcy, got into a fight with a fence. He has ripped his leg at the hock, quite deep, but fortunately (or so the vet thinks) no tendon or joint involvement. he is a wee scone, feeling very sorry for himself........I cannot take much more!!

I totally sympathise. I hope he is okay and there is no scarring, poor boy.
I've Just been to bring the horses in and discovered Merlyn has scrapped a good chunk of the skin off down the front of his back legs!!!!!
On closer inspection it isn't deeply cut or anything, but badly scrapped and evidently sore judging by how he was reacting when I put wound cream on.
I could scream as he is entered for the RHS in June and I'm sure this is going to scar. Does anyone know of any miracle creams I could use to encourage the hair to grow back in and perhaps it not scarring?
My son and I had a wander round the field and found the middle dividing fence damaged. Looks like he has come over the top of the line (fortunately plain wire) and got his back legs caught. He has struggled to get free and caused the damage to his skin.

Sorry to hear about Darcy & Merlyn. Hope they are both feeling better soon. Last year my sister's horse put her legs through a fence. She took most of the hair off and a few layers of skin too and we thought she would be left with scars. Within a few weeks it had all healed up and the hair was growing back. No you wouldn't know it had ever happened. Cornucrescine is supposed to promote hair growth although I have never tried it.

So glad to hear Mr D is on the mend. There is nothing worse than having them sick and not being able to do much about it.

can totally sympathise. Our youngsters seem to think it is a right of passage to do this. Brother and sister did it last year and on Friday 10 month old half sister did it. All legs cut up - thankfully no damage to tendon sheath. Poor little girl has done so well up to now, but has really been traumatised by the whole episode.
Glad to hear Mr D is doing well.
Ribrabs - my brother tells me that Boots Biooil is great for scarring and reckons it would be fine to use on horses.

Thanks Trinity! I've actually got some in the house and did wonder if it would be suitable to use.
I've actually been using Aloe Vera gel on his cuts and am astounded at the difference it's made. So much so that he is running round full of the joys of Spring a week later with no sign of swelling or pain! Fingers crossed it heals full by the end of June for the RHS though!
