Since Gaby passed away last November I have not felt like riding much, in fact I've only sat on one horse since. However, during the week my friend bought an unbacked 4y.o welsh section a gelding. In fact he's not even halter broken!!
So this morning I went up to the stables to spend some time with him. It's been a long time since I've worked with a baby and actually felt excited about going up. It was so good, after an hour he was letting me pat him all over and sticking his nose into the headcollar, though it'll take a bit to get it on him as he's not sure about his ears. But as I said to my friend I have plenty of time to help her with him. I think a wee project is just what I need.
I also got the chance to take one of my friends ponies for a ride around the forest. I forgot how good it feels to get on a horse and just ride, it was so relaxing I could hardly stop smiling. In fact I'm still smiling.
I'd go as far to say that it's been one of my happiest days in a long time. Can't wait till next weekend to see the wee boy again.

Thats great news. Well done and keep it up - its amazing how much of a hole you end up with when you lose your horse. Its actually difficult to put in to words the saddness it makes you feel. However its fantastic to fall in love all over again and let another in to your heart. Wish you all the best. xx

Fiona, good to hear that you are starting the healing process following Gaby's sad loss. I am sure that you will start to enjoy being around horses again and getting enjoyment through riding. What did I do today? Well, the only thing I had planned was to ride Incandescent Flame. Never a truer saying than 'The best laid schemes of mice and men gang aft agley.' Started off as normal doing morning stables. Followed that by strimming nettles and docks, then cutting the lawns. People called to ask if they could come to see the stallions after lunch. Groomed them all. Led them all out and showed them off. Then trimmed Carousel's feet. Then the car wouldn't start so had to get the van and the jump leads. Played with Obake in the outdoor school for a while then it was time to start stables all over again. Am now knackered and never got to ride Incandescent Flame. Back to work tomorrow. So, where did the weekend go? It was all work and no play for me, sadly!

Good to hear you have a project to work on, Fiona. I'm sure the pony will turn out fantastic with you to help him along. Today I had a lesson with Sheila Thom. Zak has been in all week after puncturing his foot last Sunday. He has been sound since Thursday so it was back to work today for us. Eight days box rest, 1 1/2 scoops of competition mix every day and I still had to wear spurs & carry a schooling stick I also decided that it is time for Zhaazeer to start doing some in hand practise so he can go to some shows this year
