I can't believe it. I have been so careful with him since I got him as a baby and would you believe Merlyn has the most ginormous splint on his near fore?!
He hasn't been lame or anything and I noticed a tiny bump about a week ago when I ran my hands rountinely down his legs. By the time day 3 came round it looked like a boiled egg attached to his leg. Bang goes a showing career now. What I can't figure out is quite how he's managed to get it.
I've ordered Spintex to treat it, but doesn anyone know of any other things I could try to reduce it down a bit?

My boy Sameh had two huge splints as a four year old. I never treated them and they have both gone . He is now 7 and excelling in his endurance career. They are very common in youngsters and very often dissapear as quickly as they arrive imo!!

Thanks Sameh. I've had the same story from various other people, so I don't feel so bad now. It's annoying, as I had hoped to bring him out under saddle next year, but hey ho life can be like that sometimes!
Fingers crossed it will dissappear at some point.

Brilliant Stuart, thanks. The vet is coming tomorrow afternoon to do Maverick's papers and microchipping, so I'll see what she says then.

I sympathise with Merlyn! I too have a splint! my leg is aching; brought on by running in the rain at the northern! have been taking anti-inflammatries, ice packs and rest!! (thats a laugh) hope your boy is soon better. Mr Darcy had a splint when he was younger and it completely dissapeared after a few months, so dont worry to much x

Poor you! I do hope you recover soon, it can't be pleasant.
I am hopeful that it will go down eventually. The vet just said to rest him but didn't say for how long! I haven't been doing much with him in any case, as he has only been broken and ridden away gently. Any idea's as to how long to leave him? The vet just said rest is the best thing. He isn't lame fortunately.
