Dropped the bute down to one a day today, but will need to up it again tommorow he was really sore tonight turning round in his stable. I just wish he would improve, he has from the onset but I hate seeing him still so sore. Keep reminding myself to be patient.....

Vet just been and taken yet MORE x rays of Tammuz. Now at 7weeks we are no further forward, he is getting worse The vet sees a big difference in the degree of lameness and pain. Both yard farriers convinced it was laminitis, then promptly changed their minds when the found no digital pulse and no reaction to foot pinchers. Still no heat/swelling in the feet/legs, and he does not stand like a laminitic. Waiting for the results of the new x rays, then if we can get him doped up enough to make the journey to Lanark we will do syntigraphy to find the seat of pain. For the last few weeks we have had to put him back on the high dose of bute and asprin to make him comfortable. I am at my wits end now, and day by day its getting harder to hold it together for my beautiful boy. My other two are being angels, I am sure they have picked up how I am feeling (thats arabs for you) they are keeping me sane and are not putting a hoof out of place with whatever I am doing with them Thanks for all the very kind words you guys have gave me since this started, it really helps. Susan

Hi Susan Your post really made me feel for you and your dear boy. Not knowing what is going on and where the source of pain is coming from is soul destroying for you. I hope you can get him to have some cyntigraphy and that it will provide you with some answers. There are lots of people on the forum caring about you and Tamuz so gain strength from that - we all wish you and Tamuz well - big hugs ! Lynn x

Not good news.
Tammuz has severe rotation of the pedal bone, and on his right fore it is only 2mm from a prolapse through the sole.
The vets are baffled that he has not shown any of the classic symptoms of laminitis. What is strange is that he was originally lame on his left fore, but its his right that has the worst damage. I guess the stress of him being lame at the start has contributed to him getting stress laminitis. I am being open minded to the long term prognosis, for the meantime its 6 months total box rest. My farrier has trimmed back his feet and will fit plastic heartbar shoes when they arrive on Monday. All I can do is hope with everything I have that my boy pulls through this. I feel so helpless and numb...............

I am so sorry to hear this, but at least now you have a proper diagnosis at last - it seems to have taken for ever. Are they putting on frog supports as well? Do hope they can make him comfortable and things come out right in the end.

sorry to hear this susan sounds like a carbon copy off a mare i sold and then bought back with the intention off putting her down as she had such severe rotation an was in terrible pain, she also was lamer in her good foot.Evitaa was on box rest from september to april then out for restricted time only, she was on a huge deep litter bed and wore frog supports but no shoes as her feet were so bad they just fell off,she had the usual danilon, asprin and acp and i gave her formula 4 feet which has helped her a lot.She is now flying round the field, she did have a little set back with some frosty grass but i watch her like a hawk now.Good luck and i wish you and tammuz all the best for your long journey ahead of you,it is worth it when you turn them out and see them trot away sound as i shed many tears watching evitaa in so much pain.

So sorry to hear that this has happened. A few years back my mare went very lame and they thought it was a luxating patella. Exercise and more but she continued to be lame. She went to Glasgow vet school after x rays revealed she had bone cyst in her stifle region. She had scintigraphy. Further vet school visits did not show the cyst area filling in but there were no fragments of bone in the area. She was on box rest and developed stress laminitis but showed no symptoms of it at all. My vet and farrier said she didn't have it but later my farrier said it did happen. That was almost three years ago. You are at your wits end and especially difficult when you are someone who takes their welfare very seriously. You can get through this and everyone is thinking about you and your boy. x

Poor Tammuz, we have also been in this situation when Kaspian had severe pedal rotation and sinker. It is horrendous. I just hope and pray that he will make a huge improvement, and be able to live his life out to the full. Our boy was not so fortunate. Sending him more hugs and good wishes for a speedy recovery XXX
